Why FIFA Chose a Controversial Stadium for the 2026 World Cup Final

Video Overview & Insights

What if I told you that five billion people will watch the biggest sporting event on Earth... at a stadium NFL players are terrified to play on?

This video lied Jets and Giants ARE NOT DIVISION RiVIALS!!!!!! They play in different divisions, hell they play in different conferences Jets are in the AFC and Giants are in the NFC. 2 totally different conferences!!

— @BigBlu20503

Not at the five billion dollar palace in Los Angeles. Not at the ninety-thousand-seat empire in Dallas. The 2026 FIFA World Cup final will take place at MetLife Stadium—a concrete box in New Jersey where sixteen players have suffered devastating injuries and where the Jets go to lose.

But FIFA just gave them the greatest prize in sports. How did this happen?

dummy they are playing on grass not the bad turf ,still i hate the stadium

— @anthonyd6370

Behind this decision is the most brutal stadium war in history—billionaires fighting for control, permanent demolitions worth millions, and a surrender so complete that MetLife started destroying their own stadium before FIFA even chose them. Los Angeles fought back and got eliminated. Dallas threw a victory party... then watched New Jersey steal it on live television.

MetLife is the largest by seat capacity in the NFL.

1:13 Did FIFA Get Bought?

6:06 The Makeover FIFA Demanded

They hate each other on the field but off it are business partners. They own 50% each of that disaster and I'm a Giants fan.

10:46 What will Happen After the World cup?

#fifa #worldcup #final #stadium

This is not something new when it comes to the wc final
Italia 90 it went to Rome even though the San Siro in Milan was the biggest and best , 2006 Berlin took the final when Munich had the much better stadium
The city and its global stature matters , the time zone is considered

The one thing FIFA used to have rules on was the final needed a min capacity of 80000 and needed to be covered I,e have a roof over the seating area

No roof at MetLife but they ignored that rule when the rosebowl hosted back in 94 , I guess FIFA decide which of its own rules it chooses to ignore

Giants and Jets are not division rivals. They are in different conferences.

Boycott it. Don't come. Trump will be there.

The American venues are going to be empty due to the current leader running the country

Another factor is possibly the time zone on the east coast, which is better for viewers in South America, Europe and Africa. All football crazy continents with huge populations.

FIFA one of the most corrupt sporting organisations along with the UEFA, IOC, FIA and others. They don't care about the fans they care about profit

@Charlesjay7

No roof

@alleyoop2017

The jets definitely don’t need the extra seats

@aviwohl1

I mean the club World Cup final was hosted here

@Luker123

The synthetic turf issues won’t be a problem because there will be a natural grass surface in place. Like they did last year. Of all the issues that this World Cup has, the venue for the final isn’t one of them. Also your AI chatbot doesn’t know how to pronounce the owner of the LA Rams.

Because it is the Capital of the World!! Their economy will boom and there is nothing like a NYC!! It’s about money and the business.. FIFA wants people to come to NYC and experience the global celebration. Also weather in July is pretty hot in most South and West.. Yes Stadium is not the best but good enough to host events!!

@NewYorkNYKer

Leave south Africa out bro, unless you do a thorough research

@Bully1988

Alternate view: they created extra space for even more premium seats.

Being a former host guarantees your survival for at least one extra cycle.

@srikothur2845

There is immense value in hosting from this perspective: the prime city in a country always hosts the final. You are mentioned on a global scale. NYC isn't ready to give it up.

Cost is worth it in soft power.

@srikothur2845

Because FIFA s#cks

This is all bollox. MetLife got the final because it's New York.

I thought the stadium was chosen on the basis of the quality of the local prostitutes. That's what happened in Cape town. They built the stadium on a golf course at the terminus of all the transport in the most congested point of the city. Instead they should have rehabilitated vacant abandoned state land that conveniently sits in the middle point (not the terminus) of every transport system in the city. Now we have a situation where any event gridlocks cape town

So FIFA is involved and the decision came down to money, what a shock.

Metlife stadium is very beautiful and attractive. Modern but unusual, because he don't have roof or some futuristic facade.

@Pacificoceanaz

AT&T Stadium only has a regular capacity of 80K . Do you think ticket prices won't go up to make up the loss of revenue?

There is nothing wrong with Metlife Stadium and it is the best stadium to host. Closest timezone to Europe and Africa. It has 84,000 seats for soccer. Its located in the most populated region the United States within 25 miles of 3 major airports. There is plenty of bus and train public transit to the stadium. Over 13,000 parking spaces all paved with places to put spent charcoals and portable toilets making for a good tailgating environment. There are shuttle busses to and from the racetrack granstand that hosts a sportsbook. There are 2 pedestrian bridges that connect it to the American Dream mall that has bars, resteraunts, a super market that sells liquor, and other attractions. The stadium itself has a ton of concession stands and bathrooms, it has multiple club levels and tons of luxury boxes. The place is ugly but it litterally checks off every box. That is why its hosting the final.

What the ever loving fuck is this video? The Giants and Jets are not bitter rivals in the same division, they're not even in the same conference. Then you have the complete butchering of Stan Kroenke's name (KRON [like Tron but with a K] Key). If you're going to use a speech bot forget the correct spelling and spell it phonetically.
As for the stadium itself, no it's not the biggest or the flashiest, but it's still got a pretty decent capacity at over 80,000. I know Jerry World in Arlington can host more, but there's no transit infrastructure to go alongside it. And I think it too is still too narrow like SoFi.

On top of all that as I watch further, the security thing probably is accurate but it should be noted that they've hosted a Super Bowl before. An event just as big as the World Cup Final. I guarantee they're familiar with that whole operation and the necessary addition of extra checkpoints.

One more thing as I reach the end: the reason why the Giants & Jets don't use grass is that they've tried it before and it was a horrendous failure. Back at the old Giants Stadium from about 1999 until 2003, they used a natural grass field. By the end of the season it was more or less dirt spray painted to look green. You had the Giants and Jets play a combined 16 games there a year, then there's the odd College Football game or two during the year, concerts, and towards the end of November, you have High School football championships held there as well. I know technology has advanced significantly in those almost 25 years, but with that much wear and tear it seems like an impossibility to maintain the proper upkeep of a grass field there.

@Metfan722

The video makes it sound like " It's wordly impossible to replace 1,740 seats after removing them."

Screw world cup.

@dalejensen5828

The only reason why MetLife Stadium was chosen is because of it's proximity to New York City. That's it. No other reason.

I’ve seen the Jets, and some international soccer at Met Life Stadium. I thought the construction seemed a little shoddy, exposed concrete, considering its price. But good views from the middle level. Excellent service when I went with a friend in a wheel chair.

MetLife Stadium has been around for 16 years. Through out that time span and all the players injured in that venue, Less than 5 injuries was proven to be caused by the turf. That averages to only 1 field injury every 4 years or less - Which proves the dangers of the field is grossly exaggerated.

Try comparing it to other grass field stadiums like Acrisure stadium in Pittsburgh, Northwest Stadium, Paycor Stadium and others. Those places have field injuries almost every year because of cold snowy weather conditions that turns the grass into slippery slush during November and December. Yet nobody even talks about that.

Giants and Jets owners only go with the advanced turf because they know all too well grass field does not hold up well in the snowy winter weather - Especially when 2 teams are hosting games every week. Until they can get the kind of grass field that can hold up in harsh weather conditions - The advanced turf will have to do. At least for now.

Both NY/NJ teams stink

Fake grass - should not host any games - plenty of grass stadiums on the east coast

I can’t believe they removed 1,700 seats,& lost $10 million revenue every year. even if they were guaranteed the finals in advance. When they have to give 80% of their revenue to FIFA anyway. Just as many viewers worldwide are going to watch the semifinals as well as the finals. So getting a semifinal is just as good.
I hope it’s easy to put the seats back.

The Jets and Giants are NOT division rivals 6:15 They are in different conferences, & they only play each other once every 3 years

To this day I still don’t understand why they picked Metlife, having Sofi and other amazing stadiums in the US…. but also, I can’t think of a better metro area (NYC) to host the final

@elmrml

I believe MetLife Stadium will be very well suited for both sports
