Have so enjoyed re-watching this a dozen times. It resonates with my own childhood in the discovery and evolving of the estranged relationship between grandmother and grandson.

The original book was written by Lucy Boston. She wrote a series for children with the first being Children of Green Knowe. Green Knowe was in fact her very loved home in Hemingford Grey, right on the river in Cambrideshire. It was Norman and I was lucky enough to visit it in ther late 1990s. It was private but open for a memorial night by her family. During the second world war many aairman were based in nearby place and she would organise a musical evening for them. Using a record player and 78 discs.
Maggie Smith is wonderful in the film adaption as are the other actors.
